Mrs. Estella Fernandez is the co-owner of a corner store in Fort Greene (aka the bodega) with her husband. She and her husband hail from El Salvador.
Summary[]
The Fernandez's store is under an apartment rented by the Frazier family (Max & Lenni).
At one time in the story arc "Into the Comics", a heated argument ensued with her husband Eduardo. This argument was about getting a new truck for the store. Mr. Fernandez wanted it, but Estella disapproves. The Fernandez siblings overheard their arguing and thought they were getting a divorce. So they cleaned up their room and help out more in the store in an attempt to save their marriage. The parents got wind of what the kids were up to after seeing them quietly walk into their room and told them that there is no divorce in the future and explained the real reason for the sudden argument as well as the true meaning of having an argument.
In the "Am I Blue?" story arc, her daughter begged her relentlessly to lend her money, so she could purchase a Galaxy Girl costume for a convention at Zora Neale Hurston Middle School. She put her foot down and said no, because she was trying to teach her daughter that when you borrow money you must be able to pay it back. When she gave Tina Nguyen a refund for a type of laundry detergent that made her Dad itch, this gave Gaby an idea. She would "borrow" the money from the till. Then buy the costume, but return it and get a refund, while telling a lie saying that it didn't fit. She soon found out when she found the costume in her children's bedroom. She also taught her daughter that a dissatisfied customer should always be an honest customer and never a dishonest one. Eventually Gaby apologized to her and she forgave her.
In "Four Days of the Cockatoo" She was absent during this time. It was mentioned that she was away in El Salvador for undisclosed reasons.
